Cubs suspend Zambrano after altercation with - Ev

Piniella said Zambrano was upset after some of his teammates didn’t try to make diving stops, even though the balls was hit hard.
Zambrano has faced disciplinary action for his antics before.
Last season he was barred for six games by Major League Baseball after an outburst during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. And in 2007, he got into a fight with former teammate Michael Barrett in the dugout. The fight then resumed in the clubhouse. Both players were fined.
CHICAGO – Carlos Zambrano was suspended indefinitely by the Chicago Cubs for his tantrum and dugout altercation with teammate Derrek Lee after the first inning of a 6-0 loss to the White Sox on Friday.
Zambrano was seen screaming as he walked down the dugout steps past Lee after allowing four runs and stormed toward the other end. Lee appeared to yell something, and as Zambrano headed back toward him, Piniella, pitching coach Larry Rothschild and bench coach Alan Trammell stepped between them.
Manager Lou Piniella, who sent Zambrano home, called his behavior embarrassing. Lee declined comment.
Cubs catcher Geovany Soto then grabbed the pitcher from behind and pulled him away. Zambrano appeared to say something to Piniella on his way to the clubhouse after being lifted for Tom Gorzelanny.
Zambrano then struck out Mark Kotsay and retired A.J. Pierzynski on a grounder to first, taking the throw from Lee to end the inning.
Asked if there was any doubt in his mind that Zambrano would pitch again for the Cubs this year, Hendry said he “certainly wouldn’t rule it out” and added “the rules of the game usually don’t allow long,Evisu, long-term suspensions.”
Zambrano is in the middle of a $91.5 million, 5-year contract extension he signed in August 2007,MLB Jerseys, and Hendry said he doesn’t think his behavior could nullify the deal.
General manager Jim Hendry said Zambrano’s behavior was “not acceptable” and sounded as if he has lost patience with the volatile pitcher.
After Paul Konerko singled, Carlos Quentin hit a three-run homer to left-center to extend the lead to 4-0.
That includes a leadoff double by Juan Pierre down the right field line past Lee and another with one out by Alex Rios down the left field line past third baseman Aramis Ramirez to drive in the first run.

Portugal bids emotional farewell at Sa - Ankh Roya
by admin on Jun.21, 2010, under Juicy Couture
LISBON (AFP) – Portugal bade an emotional farewell Sunday to Nobel literature prize winner Jose Saramago,Ankh Royalty, as the country's president sought to play down a row over his failure to attend the writer's funeral.
Born November 16, 1922, Saramago published more than 30 works over 60 years including novels, poetry, essays and plays. His novels include "Baltasar and Blimunda", "The Gospel According to Jesus Christ" and "Blindness".
Cavaco Silva moved to play down the row over his absence, saying as head of state he had made a tribute to the work of Saramago but "had never had the privilege to know him or meet him".
The Vatican's newspaper,Juicy Couture tracksuits, l'Osservatore Romano, had few kind words for the writer, calling him "an anti-religious ideologue" and "populist extremist" in an editorial in its Sunday edition.
Some of those who gathered to pay their last respects admitted to never having read his books but were nevertheless saddened by the death of a "defender of the voiceless".
"Thank you, a worker of words who always served the most humble," wrote one person in the book of condolences in the chapel, where numerous people placed red carnations, the symbol of the 1974 revolution that brought to an end to the dictatorship of Antonio Salazar.
Right-wing Catholic Cavaco Silva was prime minister in 1993 when the government removed Saramago's name from the list of candidates for the European Literature Prize, saying his novel "The Gospel according to Jesus Christ" was an attack on Portugal's religious heritage.
The funeral service was attended by family and prominent figures including left-wing Prime Minister Jose Socrates, Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega, and Jeronimo de Sousa, the leader of Portugal's Communist Party of which Saramago was a member since 1969.
Crowds then moved to a nearby cemetery where Saramago was cremated. A banner at the cemetery read: "Saramago: the struggle continues".
After the official eulogy, the coffin covered in a national flag was lifted to lengthy applause. Hundreds of people shouted "Obrigado, Obrigado!" (Thank you, Thank you!), while others wept or raised their fists.
Police said more than 20,000 mourners went during the weekend to pay their respects to Saramago's body at a temporary chapel of rest at the city hall in the capital Lisbon, after his remains were flown home on Saturday.
"The president should be here, Saramago deserves it," said a woman in her fifties, who acknowledged that there was little love lost between the men.
Saramago remained controversial to the end, last year describing the Bible as a "handbook for bad morals" during the launch of his final novel, "Cain".
Saramago accused the government of censorship and moved to the Canary island of Lanzarote, where he died of multiple organ failure Friday following a long illness.
Portugal declared two days of mourning on Saturday and Sunday for the writer, who won the Nobel Prize in 1998.
Many in the crowd criticised the absence from Sunday's funeral service of Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva, who is on holiday.
Saramago's death on Friday aged 87 has unleashed a massive outpouring of emotion in Portugal for the prodigal son who went into self-imposed exile in Spain's Canary islands following a row over censorship.
Several prominent figures in Portugal, including former socialist president Mario Soares, have called for Saramago's ashes to be preserved.
Best Buy results disappoint and shares fa - Roca W
by admin on Jun.19, 2010, under Affliction
Despite the huge miss,Roca Wear, Best Buy backed its outlook for the full year. Some analysts however remain skeptical.
GADGET WARS
CEO Dunn said while there may be no rapid huge paybacks, he expected a steady return from the new initiatives.
"I usually applaud companies for making revenue and margin-enhancing investments… The concern I have though is that the degree to which Best Buy expects what seems to be an immediate payoff from these investments," Nagel said.
"It is definitely a significant worry. When you think about pricing… there is Amazon and Wal-Mart and a number of other major retailers that are focused on this category and they predominantly compete on price," Edward Jones' Matt Arnold said.
Best Buy, which has benefited from being the only other reseller of certain Apple products, is in for more challenges from its rivals.
Wal-Mart on Tuesday confirmed it would sell the fourth-generation iPhone on launch day. The retailer, which prides itself on featuring "everyday low prices," declined to comment on how it will price the new iPhone.
In a separate statement, Best Buy announced a new program to allow gaming enthusiasts to exchange old games for Best Buy giftcards. The news weighed on shares of GameStop (GME.N).
Best Buy reiterated its forecast for fiscal 2011 earnings of $3.45 to $3.60 a share on revenue of $52 billion to $53 billion.
Best Buy shares closed down 6 percent at $38.58 Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.

It expects a slower rate of expense growth in dollar terms in subsequent quarters, with costs for full fiscal year 2011 up 6 percent to 6.5 percent from a year ago, excluding restructuring charges from fiscal 2010.
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Best Buy (BBY.N) reported lower-than-expected sales and profit, hurt by rising costs of expanding its business and weaker consumer demand, sending its shares down 6 percent.
"Consumer spending has been episodic and (it) appears that our customers are operating on cues from the broader environment," CEO Brian Dunn said on a conference call on Tuesday.
Net profit was $155 million, or 36 cents a share, for the three months ended May 29, compared with $153 million, or 36 cents a share, a year earlier.
The top U.S. electronics chain said shoppers proved more tentative in a seasonally weaker quarter for sales. That theme has played out for many retailers as unemployment remains high and Europe's economic troubles weigh on a global recovery.
Analysts also focused on a 12.3 percent rise in selling, general and administrative costs, adding pressure to margins as Best Buy continues to fight a fierce price war against larger retailers Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) and Amazon.com (AMZN.O).
Analysts on average were expecting a profit of 50 cents a share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Oppenheimer's Brian Nagel, who termed the company's outlook as "aggressive," worried that Best Buy's expectations might be a stretch.
In the first quarter, Best Buy's net revenue rose about 6.9 percent to $10.79 billion, missing analysts' expectations of $10.93 billion. Sales at stores operating for at least 14 months increased 2.8 percent, boosted by sales of notebook computers, mobile phones and appliances.
"I am not pleased with our overspend in the first quarter," CEO Dunn said in an interview, adding: "That being said … Q1 is 10 percent of our year. This was a good place for us to make some investments to set us up for the balance of the year."
Best Buy posted a low single-digit decline in same-store sales of televisions during its fiscal first quarter as well as weak sales in its video gaming, music and movie categories.
Selling, general and administrative expenses rose to 23 percent of revenue in the quarter from 21.9 percent a year ago. The company said that increase was driven by new stores, higher investments to boost sales and foreign currency fluctuations.
Yves Saint Laurent Cruise Sails to - Ed hardy hood

Shown in three sections, Pilati started with the most tailored pieces first, like an all-white pantsuit that called to mind 1970s YSL, a belted denim trench coat and a tailored jacket paired with surprisingly sophisticated bloomers, which turned out to be the defining piece of the collection.
A navy dress with a high waist and an M.C. Escher-like print of butterflies was particularly charming, and later in the show there were prints created from cutout shapes from '70s YSL ads that Pilati used as pendants in his Fall 2010 collection.
For, the third and final section, Pilati circled back to the beginning, with more elegant cocktail fare, with belted printed dresses, a very '70s disco jumpsuit and the final look, a version of Yves Saint Laurent's infamous "le smoking" jacket in black paired with the up-to-the-moment bloomers. Worn with a bathing beauty turban (all the models wore them), it was a pointed lesson on sleek French chic.
Pilati experimented with volume at the shoulders again, as well. Whereas for Fall, he added strips of fringe to the shoulders, reminiscent of a Native American style leather jacket, here the volume was softer, in the form of ruffles outlined with contrasting piping, almost like comic book sketches.
"For me, the French Identity was important," said Pilati after the show. "It's the house, and it's where I come from."
Though the address couldn't have been more New York, on Fifth Avenue in the Upper East Side with Central Park just outside the door, the building itself, the French Consulate, lent the clothes a refined air far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
But if Fall was dark, tough and nearly exclusively black,Ed hardy hoodies, in the second section,Chanel, "literally resort," said Pilati, with crisp cotton bras paired with belted maxi skirts and more bloomers, Pilati gave free reign to a lush tropical color palette worthy of Carmen Miranda, with coral, fuchsia, orange and purple.
New York – Chanel just jetted to St. Tropez and Dior landed in Shanghai, but for the Yves Saint Laurent Cruise 2011 collection show, designer Stefano Pilati staged it in New York for the first time on Thursday morning, June 3.
There were more echoes of Fall 2010 in the tailoring, like an elegantly constructed blazer-meets-cape that gives the visual effect of draping a man's jacket over your shoulders on an unseasonably cool evening, or the long and lean trousers.

"Will & Grace" actor Sean Hayes hosted the awards and shared the stage with punk rock band Green Day who performed songs from their album turned musical "American Idiot" in front of well-known figures who attended, including Cate Blanchett, Will Smith, Antonio Banderas and Jay-Z.

Catherine Zeta-Jones honored by Queen Eli - Billab
by admin on Jun.13, 2010, under Lacoste
Swansea, Wales-born Zeta-Jones, 40, began her career in British theater and television before moving to Hollywood and marrying actor Michael Douglas. The actress, who won a best supporting actress Oscar in 2003 for the musical “Chicago,” can now put the letters CBE after her name.
Tamara Mellon, co-founder and creative director of designer shoe brand Jimmy Choo, also was awarded an OBE.
Britain’s honors are bestowed twice a year by the monarch — on her official birthday in June and on New Year’s Day — but recipients are selected by committees of civil servants from nominations made by the government and the public.
In descending order, the honors are knighthoods, CBE, OBE and MBE. Knights are addressed as “sir” or “dame.” Recipients of the other honors have no title but can put the letters after their names.
Most of the honors go to people who are not in the limelight, for services to their community or industry.
Former soldier Bryn Parry and his wife Emma, who founded the “Help for Heroes” charity to help wounded troops, were awarded OBEs.
The awards include MBEs for Frank Duckworth and Tony Lewis, statisticians who devised the Duckworth-Lewis Method, a mathematical system for calculating target scores in cricket matches interrupted by rain.
Other honors went to Susan Gibbs,Billabong, an announcer at London’s Fenchurch Street railway station, who received an MBE “for services to public transport,” and farmer James Fitchie, granted an MBE “for services to plowing in Northern Ireland.”
Horror writer James Herbert, 67 — author of spine-tinglers “The Rats” and “The Fog” — said he was “totally staggered and deeply honored” to receive an OBE.
Mellon, 42, who is divorced from American banking heir Matthew Mellon, enlisted east London cobbler Jimmy Choo to design a range of high-fashion shoes. The brand, launched in 1996, was embraced by models, celebrities and the fashion-conscious characters on “Sex and the City.” In 2007 Mellon sold her stake to a private equity firm, in a deal which valued the company at 185 million pounds, but remained creative director.
“I am absolutely thrilled with this honor,” Zeta-Jones said in a statement. “As a British subject, I feel incredibly proud. At the same time, it is overwhelming and humbling. And my mum and dad are delighted beyond belief.”
“I have been a writer for most of my life but I could never have written this script,” he said.
Zeta-Jones added a royal honor to Hollywood stardom when she was named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire Saturday by Queen Elizabeth II.
Restaurateur Prue Leith, 70, and 94-year-old food writer Marguerite Patten,American eagle, who both helped Britain shake a dire culinary reputation, received CBEs.
The Academy Award winner is part of an eclectic list of honorees, announced to mark the queen’s official birthday, that includes the founder of the Jimmy Choo footwear label and 1960s rocker Graham Nash.
Ronald Harwood, 75, a screenwriter whose films include “The Dresser” and the Oscar-winning “The Pianist,” becomes Sir Ronald with the award of a knighthood.
LONDON – From Wales to Hollywood to “Chicago” — now Catherine Zeta-Jones has an appointment at Buckingham Palace.
Nash said he was “humbled” by the accolade.
The list also sees a couple of musical rebels join the establishment. John Cale, 68, one of the founders of experimental 60s rock group The Velvet Underground, was named an OBE, as was musician Nash, 68, co-founder of Crosby, Stills and Nash.
“It’s more exciting than the Oscar because of the secrecy that’s involved,” said Harwood, who learned of his honor six weeks ago but was not allowed to tell anyone. “The Oscar is a sudden shock, you take it all in and people make a fuss. But this feels like a very big event.”
U.S.-British scientist Charles K. Kao, who shared the 2009 Nobel Prize for physics for his work on fiber optics, also received a knighthood.
In literary and artistic honors, Guyana-born novelist Wilson Harris, 89, was awarded a knighthood, and Portugal-born artist Paula Rego, 75, was made a dame, the female equivalent of a knight.
Actress Sophie Okenedo, 41, Oscar nominated for “Hotel Rwanda,” was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, or OBE.
